Office of Professional Development

The Office of Professional Development within the School of Education at the University of Indianapolis is available to support P-12 teachers, schools, and school districts with their professional development needs.

Today, more than ever, it is expected that teachers will improve student achievement for every student, in every subject, in every classroom. If all students are to be successful, they must have teachers with the knowledge, disposition, and skills to help them on their learning journey. Teachers must be supported through professional development opportunities that ensure that they will be successful in increasing their own knowledge and skills as professional educators.

The staff in the Office of Professional Development believes that highly effective professional learning must be

• focused on improving classroom practice and increasing student achievement
• embedded in practice
• informed by research
• cultivated in a culture of collaboration
• centered on critical teaching and learning activities
• ongoing and supported by modeling, coaching, and reflection
• the responsibility of individuals as well as organizations
