The Master of Arts in Teaching program is designed to be very selective. The cohorts, which are selected in the spring of each year for fall enrollment, consist of 15 to 20 candidates. The admissions process is composed of three stages. The first stage requires the applicant to submit an undergraduate transcript for review to determine eligibility in the content area. The second stage of the admission process requires the candidate to:
During the third stage of the admission process, applicants are interviewed by a committee consisting of Education and Arts and Sciences faculty. Applicants are also required to complete a writing exercise on-site. The final selection is made by the interview committee. Applicants who do not meet initial admission requirements are encouraged to set up an appointment to discuss deficiencies and to reapply once those requirements are met.
The application process for the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program is conducted each spring to select the members of the cohort who will begin the program the following August.
Those requesting information will be added to the MAT mailing list and contacted in the spring. Before applying, applicants should have their transcripts reviewed for content area requirements. Application packets are mailed throughout the spring. An initial review of applications is conducted and applicants are invited to attend an interview and participate in an on-site writing exercise. After the interview committee makes its final determination, applicants are informed of whether or not they have been admitted to the program; notifications are mailed to applicants by May of each year.
