Program Requirements

Initial Admission Requirements

In order to pursue the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, the applicant must meet the following three admission standards:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. Students applying from outside the United States must hold the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree with above average performance.
  2. Satisfy one of the following:
    • be a licensed teacher, or
    • have graduated from an accredited teacher preparation program with a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale within the education major.
  3. Complete formal application to the program by submitting:
    • official transcripts for all previous undergraduate and graduate coursework
    • photocopy of most recent teaching license(s)
    • completed application form, including goals statement
    • $30 application fee
    • three letters of reference

Additional Admission Requirements for International Students

In addition to the above requirements, international students must also provide a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 or above, and a Statement of Financial Support.

Special Admission (for students taking selected courses only)

A student who wishes to take courses for credit but not a degree may be admitted by submitting proof of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in teacher education (either a valid teacher's license or transcripts). A student who later decides to seek a degree must fulfill the requirements for regular admission stated above.
